As winter settles in and we prepare for the deep cold, don’t forget your water pipes. Frozen pipes are a big problem every winter. With a few precautions, you can protect your home and your pipes.
Turn off water to the outside faucets, detach the hose, shut off the valves to those faucets and open the taps to empty water in the line allowing space for expansion should a bit be left behind. Make sure any pipes along exterior walls or in crawl spaces are insulated. Insulate basements and crawl spaces where pipes may be. If you are going to be away from home for a few days, leave a faucet or two on a slow drip.
These are a few steps each homeowner can take to protect your water pipes. Protect your home and keep the water flowing.
