One step closer

On Monday, January 13th, the Planning Commission will hear and review the first Special Land Use Application to sell recreational marijuana in Lowell and even in Kent County. As the first application of this type, the Commission will learn what the process looks like and functions in practical application.

Voters in the City of Lowell approved of recreational marijuana with 60% voting for the measure. Listening to the community, City Council opted in to recreational marijuana sales and established an application process. Now that process is taking place right here in our small community.

The applicant has been approved by the State of Michigan for a license. Both the City Manager and the Chief of Police have reviewed the application and all requirements seem to be in order. On Monday, the Planning Commission will make sure all land use requirements are met.

Assuming everything is in order, the Planning Commission approves land use requirements and the City Manager approves the administrative details, it is possible this business will open in February. Watch history happen right here in Lowell on Monday, June 13th at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
